Aaron grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and Chevy Chase, Maryland. He graduated from UCLA with a Screenwriting Degree in 1988. He produced laser discs for the Criterion Collection and co-founded the Recording Industry Sourcebook before working full-time as a screenwriter in Los Angeles.

In 2004 Aaron was elected to the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America West and was re-elected in 2006, 2008 and 2010. He served on the Negotiating Committee in '04 and '07-'08.
