James Newman was born in the middle of October 1956 on the territory which was subject to the area of the Pacific Ocean, though he considers the city of San Diego as his native one, in which he spent his childhood. In 1974, he finishes the La Jolla high school in San Diego and enters the Dortmund College. In 1978 he was premed with the Bachelor degree in the field of Science. He continued his studies in Rice University, in which in 1984 he was honored with the Doctor degree in Physics. After graduating the university he worked for a year in it while studying the problems of atomic and molecular physics. Since 1985 he worked as an adjunct professor in the sector of cosmic physics and astronomy of Rice University. The same year he started working in NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston. In January 1990 he entered the row of cosmonauts in NASA. He went through a course of cosmic preparing and in July 1991 was qualified as a specialist in flying the “Space Shuttles”. While his flight to the cosmos, he once went to the open space, in which he stayed for seven hours and eight minutes. In total he stayed 9 days and 20 hours in the cosmos. His second flight into the cosmos he made from 7th to 18th September 1995 together with David Walker and James Voss.
