Zara Symes was born on 28 June 1984 in Sydney, relocating to London twice, first in 2003 and a second time in 2007 after studying for a year at the University of California, Santa Barbara as part of her Bachelors degree in Performance Studies and English Literature at The University of Sydney.

After relocating to London for the second time, Zara continued with her new found passion for film, taking roles in short films interspersed with theatrical stints before graduating to feature films in 2010 with impressive performances in gritty urban independent films David is Dying, Class Fiction, For Love, Fedz and Amina. Since breaking out onto the independent film scene, Zara has quickly become the go-to actress for realistic, credible performances in outside-the-box films, working with directors such as John Hardwick and Michael Winterbottom. In October 2012, Zara completed the lead role of Linda in the hotly anticipated 'found footage' psychological thriller Silent Lake, shot in Poland.
