Actors who were injured on movie sets

You think that Hollywood stars have the most exciting job that’s all about glamour? Well, that’s only partly true. The fact is that acting job is a demanding one and can be dangerous, especially when it includes doing all sorts of stunts. Here is a list of movie stars who got injured on set.

Jackie Chan

While attempting to jump onto a moving hovercraft for 1995’s Rumble in the Bronx, Jackie Chan broke his foot and the entire incident had been captured on film and was included during the film’s end credits. A broken foot didn’t stop Chang from filming, though. He ended up completing filming while covering his cast with a sock painted like a shoe.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry had her arm broken by Gothika co-star Robert Downey Jr. while shooting a scene for the movie. “It was in a scene that didn’t involve any stunts, Robert Downey Jr. twisted my arm the wrong way and it just…broke,” Halle said. “But we’re friends. It was an accident, just one of those freaky things that happen while making this odd movie.” The filming was paused for eight weeks in order for the injury to improve. She finished shooting the movie with a smaller cast from her elbow to her wrist.

Channing Tatum

While in Scotland filming The Eagle, Channing Tatum suffered a severe burn to his penis. Tatum was filming a scene in a freezing river and to stay warm actors would pour a mix of boiling water and river water down their suits. Tatum was asked by a crew member if he wanted some warm water, however the crew member forgot to mix the boiling water with the river water. As a result the water was so hot it burnt the skin off the tip of his penis.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

While filming the 2012 film Premium Rush in New York, Gordon-Levitt ran into the back of a taxi cab’s window. The collision resulted in a pretty large cut that required the actor to receive 31 stitches. The actor shared the details of the accident with a post on his blog. “My first real wreck today,” he said. “Busted through the rear window of a cab. Luckily got my elbows up. Coulda been way worse. No, but it was my fault, I was going too fast.”

Nicole Kidman

Moulin Rouge was delayed before filming even started when Ewan MacGregor dropped Nicole Kidman and broke her rib. That initial injury was aggravated two weeks later when, thinking it might help her ribs improve, Kidman decided to begin wearing her corset again. “Well it sort of started to heal and then we thought oh well, with the corset on, that should help it, you know, hold it in place and it actually cracked it more,” she said.

George Clooney

George Clooney suffered a severe back injury on the set of Syriana when a stunt went wrong and injured his spine. In an interview with Rolling Stone Clooney said, “I was at a point where I thought, ‘I can’t exist like this. I can’t actually live. I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you’re having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, ‘I may have to do something drastic about this.”

Leonardo DiCaprio

While shooting a scene for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Leonardo DiCaprio sliced open his hand. The actor needed stitches after he slammed his hand so hard on a table that a huge gash opened and he began to bleed while filming a scene. “Leo had slammed his hand on the table countless times and he moved his hand further and he crushed a crystal cordial glass,” producer Stacey Sher said. “Blood was dripping down his hand. He never broke character. He kept going. He was in such a zone. It was very intense. He required stitches.”

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt was forced to halt filming of Troy, where he plays the role of Achilles, for three months when he tore his Achilles tendon while shooting the final scenes for the 2004 film. In a scene in the movie, Brad runs, jumps, and easily kills a giant Trojan warrior. The injury came when the actor landed. “It’s a true story,” Pitt said. “It’s sad, it’s stupid, but it’s true. It’s so wrong. It’s such a bad headline.”
