Actresses who married directors

An unwritten rule says that mixing business with pleasure is a big no-no. However, many of the usual social norms do not apply to celebrities, so why should they care about this one. Over the years we have seen co-stars dating, movie stars and producers hooking up and actresses marrying their directors. Check out some of the most interesting actor-director marriages.

Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson

This couple met in 2002 on the Resident Evil set and soon started dating. Paul proposed to Milla in 2003, but the two separated for some time before reuniting. They had their first child together on November 3, 2007. The couple officially got married in 2009. Before Anderson, Jovovich was married to her Fifth Element director Luc Besson.

Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow

These two met on the set of the 1996 comedy film, The Cable Guy, which Apatow was producing. On June 9, 1997 they tied the knot. Apatow has cast his wife in: The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Drillbit Taylor, Funny People, and This Is 40. And they have two daughters, Iris and Maude, who both appeared in some of Apatow’s movies as well.

Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman

Kate Beckinsale and director Len Wiseman fell in love in 2003 while making Underworld. Kate was in a long-term relationship with her co-star Michael Sheen at the time and Wiseman was married. However, that didn’t stop the actress and the director and they got married on May 9, 2004 in Bel-Air, California and their marriage is still going strong. On top of that, both of them are still friends with Kate’s ex, Michael Sheen.

Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg

The Texan actress met the film director after landing the female lead in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984. However, in 1985 Spielberg married actress Amy Irving and they stayed together until 1989. After their divorce (which was recorded as the third most costly celebrity divorce ever), the director started dating Capshaw and they got married on October 12, 1991. Kate and Steven have three biological children together and one adopted daughter.

Rose McGowan and Robert Rodriguez

Sin City director Robert Rodriguez separated from his wife Elizabeth Avellan after 16 years of marriage because he had an affair with actress Rose McGowan. The couple worked together on Planet Terror, one half of the 2007 horror double feature also involving Quentin Tarantino. On October 12, 2007, it was announced by that McGowan was engaged to Rodriguez. They were planning a wedding in 2009, but split before it ever happened.

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton

The pair first connected during filming Planet of the Apes in 2001. While they’ve never actually gotten married, they’ve been a couple for the last 13 years and have 2 children together. Burton also cast Helena in some of his movies, She appeared in: Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows.

Actress Jenna Fisher arrives with an uni

James Gunn has been making headlines recently thanks to his huge hit, Guardians of the Galaxy. But, before he made it big, the director was probably most well known as husband to The Office star Jenna Fischer. The two linked up on Gunn’s superhero indie The Specials and married in 2000.  They worked together both on Gunn’s horror film Slither and Fischer’s low-budget comedy LolliLove, but ended up splitting on good terms in 2007.

Joel Coen, one half of the cinematic duo, known as The Coen Brothers, met Frances McDormand on the set of Blood Simple in 1984. They got married that same year and are still together. The couple adopted a son from Paraguay, named Pedro McDormand Coen.
