Allegedly, Amanda Bynes returned to Los Angeles shortly before being placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold in hospital on Monday because she is broke and couldn’t find an apartment to rent in New York.

An insider told RadarOnline that she decided to come back to L.A. ”because she had run out of money she had access to. Amanda was unable to find any place to live in New York City because of her bizarre behavior. No one would rent an apartment to her. She does own a house in Calabasas (California). It’s unclear how she got to California from New York.”

The actress was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold — also known as 5150 — in Los Angeles on Monday after setting a fire in a driveway, according to TMZ. Deputies determined that Bynes met the criteria for a mental health hold and took her into custody, where she can be held for 72 hours of observation.

Captain Don Aguilar of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said:  “Amanda Bynes was involved in a disturbance in a residential neighborhood last night in Thousand Oaks in the 200-block of Avenida De Los Arboles. Deputies investigated the incident and determined that she met the criteria of 5150 W&I. She was detained and taken for a mental health evaluation.”
