Even though he finds directing very interesting, Ben Stiller admits that there are some aspects of the job that are weird.
One of those things is directing a love scene, especially the one in his romantic comedy Reality Bites, starring Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke.
Stiller told Empire magazine: ”I had to direct a love scene with Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke in Reality Bites. I hadn’t done a lot of love scenes as a director. That was weird. I knew them both, but they took care of it … they did well on their own.”
Ben also reveals that Steven Spielberg’s hit movie Jaws had a great impact on him, inspiring him to become an actor.
”I have to say the biggest influence for me is probably ‘Jaws’. I saw it when I was 10 years old when it came out in 1975. I just think it’s the perfect movie, one of the best ever. When you look at it in terms of what’s going on the screen, it’s very simple stuff, not a lot of crazy action, but those characters and that situation and the filmmaking are amazing,” the 48-year-old actor explained.
Thanks for the great article! It was interesting what was the influence on Ben Stiller to become an actor. He is a perfect comic actor to my mind. I love all comedies where he is acting. I am looking forward to this directing works and I hope I enjoy them too. I cannot even imagine how it feels like directing intimate scenes in a movie. LOL this would be very weird and uncomfortable for my shy personality.
Directing sex scenes is something very awkward to me. Especially, if I had to work with the people I know long ago, I wouldn’t be serious enough and would definitely laugh much. I know this won’t do from the professional point of view, but maybe that is why I am not a movie director! LOL
