Best actors who never won an Oscar

It’s only five days until the 86th Academy Awards and everyone is eager to find out who will win the Oscars this year. Aired each March, the Oscars show recognizes achievements in the film industry. It is almost every actor’s dream to win the prestigious award, but there are still some great actors who have deserved it but still haven’t taken the golden statuette home. Check them out.

Brad Pitt

The actor was first nominated for the Best Supporting Actor for 12 Monkeys in 1996, but didn’t win it. 13 years later, he was nominated for the Best Actor for his role in the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but he failed to win again. In 2012, the Hollywood heartthrob was nominated for the Best Actor in the Biographical Sports Drama category for the film Moneyball, but sadly he lost again.

Tom Cruise

Rock Of Ages - European Film Premiere

While Tom Cruise has been nominated for three Oscars, he has yet to win Hollywood’s most coveted statue. He was nominated in 1990 for the movie Born on the Fourth of July, but he lost the award to the legendary actor Daniel Day-Lewis. Seven years later, he was nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in Jerry Maguire, but he had to face rejection again. In 2000, he was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his movie Magnolia, but he lost out on winning it.

Glenn Close

Throughout her long, successful career Close has been consistently acclaimed for her brilliant acting chops. She has received six nominations tying the record with Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter for being an actress with the most nominations never to have won an Oscar.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo took the industry by storm ever since he appeared in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape in 1993. Though the actor is just 39, he has starred in 29 films, delivering stellar performances in Catch Me If You Can, The Departed, Django Unchained, and most recently The Wolf of Wall Street. However, strangely the actor has never won an Oscar though he has been nominated three times for the movies Blood Diamond, The Aviator and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. He is nominated this year too, for the role in The Wolf of Wall Street.

Annette Bening

Annette Bening continues to deliver amazing performances. She has been nominated for four Oscars, although she has yet to take one home. She was nominated for the prestigious award in 2011, 2005, 2000 and 1991.

Johnny Depp

One of the biggest surprises to make the list, Johnny Depp is known to be an extremely diverse actor who has played numerous characters in films like Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Blow, Finding Neverland and many more. The actor was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role three times for his performances in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Finding Neverland, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Naomi Watts

She has received two Oscar nominations in her career for roles in 21 Grams and The Impossible. Her best role by far, however, was in David Lynch’s mind-bending Mulholland Drive – a role she received more than a handful of awards for, though none from The Academy.

Will Smith

Since appearing in sitcom The Fresh prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith has delivered some noteworthy performances in lots of movies. The actor has been nominated twice for an Oscar, but never won – Best Actor in a Leading Role for Ali and same category in 2007 for The Pursuit of Happiness.

Julianne Moore

Many have questioned as to why one of Hollywood’s greatest actresses has never won a trophy. Julianne’s roles in films like Short Cuts, Safe, The Big Lebowski, and The Kids Are All Right are well remembered. The actress was nominated for ‘her performance in Boogie Nights and The End of the Affair. Moore was also nominated for both Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2003 for The Hours and Far From Heaven.

Robert Downey Jr.

The highest paid actor of Hollywood, it’s surprising that the talented Iron Man has not taken the golden statuette home yet. Robert Downey Jr. was up for Best Actor in 1993 for Chaplin. His next Oscar nomination was in the Best Supporting Actor category for Tropic Thunder in 2009.

Harrison Ford

Ford has made his career playing some of the most famous action stars in cinematic history. However, he has only received one Academy Award nomination, coming in the 1985 movie Witness.

Sigourney Weaver

64-year-old Sigourney Weaver was nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Oscars in 1989 and a Best Actress Oscar in 1987, but she has never won the award.

Samuel L. Jackson

Despite having an incredible career and being named the highest grossing actor of all time by The Guinness Book of World Records, Samuel L. Jackson has shockingly only had one Oscar nomination for Pulp Fiction.

Gary Oldman

As unbelievable as it sounds, Oldman has only received one Oscar nomination. It was for a 2011 Oscar for his role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. His best role is hard to choose, yet he has never won an Academy Award.

Richard Gere

Despite his 40-year career, the legendary actor has never even been nominated for an Oscar. Almost everyone thought Richard Gere would finally receive an Oscar nomination in 2002 when he won the Golden Globe for Chicago, but that never happened.

Getting an Oscar is what the crowd nominates you too. This is a really unpredictable thing! The actors and actresses enumerate din this article are very famous, talented and have tons of fans after them. It is not very ad they have never won Oscars, as they have the fame and love of the auditory and they have world fame that is by far a better reward than a golden statue. Still, I hope some of them will manage to win the long-awaited cinematography prize. I would like Leo to win it very much as I know this is his cherished dreams and I simply cannot resist this actor.)

Wow, for me it was extra shocking to see in this list such names as Richard Gere, Samuel L. Jackson and Harrison Ford. Really? They are such a great actors I cannot imagine the entire cinema industry without them, they are like huge columns that are holding the industry on their shoulders. Damn it I am shocked, how come Richard Gere has never won the statue after so many years of acting, and how come they never gave them the statue for the performance in the movie “Pretty Woman”, now I am even more curious who won the statue instead of him in that year. Hmm, it seems that he never was nominated for this movie, and the entire movie was nominated, I have no idea what they were thinking of at that ceremony, as that movie is a total masterpiece, even though almost twenty five years have passed since it was released, it is still a hela good movie that is worth seen. And the second thing that has deadly surprised me is Harrison Ford, I was always a huge fan of its talent and simply am not able to understand how it happened that he never got the damn statue, for the entire Indiana Jones thing, or the huge variety of movies after it.

I truly feel sorry for Leonardo di Caprio, he is struggling so many ceremonies in a raw for the Oscar statue that already I feel a huge desire to give it to him, and the interesting thing is that each new year he is performing better and better, as well as the movie’s scenario is better and better, so I cannot really understand how did it happen that he never got the Oscar? For example his performance in the movie about Gilbert Grape is simply an epic one, or the one in “Titanic” the entire world was crying after he has died there, so how come that he was never honored with becoming a winner. I know for sure that many other actors with whom he was competing all those years they su**ed as didn’t had even half of his talent, so maybe it is a sort of trick from the juries to not give him Oscar in order to motivate him for even higher tops in his carrier. I guess there should be invented a new award especially for him for all the efforts he have put into the cinema industry. Probably it was very sad for him to lose especially considering that his fiancée was there with him, and it is always hard for a man to lose in front of his woman. Well maybe next year he will be luckier, I know for sure that when someone wants something really bad he never gets it, but as soon as the person loses interest in what he wanted he immediately obtains the long desired thing.

I am wondering why is Leonardo di Caprio so unlucky, he was nominated for the Oscar award so many times, but still no matter how great his performance is, and no matter how hard he tries he is still not able to win it. And I have no idea how to explain this, as the actors who were in competition with him, almost all the years when he was nominated they were mostly pathetic and not that good as he is for sure, so why is it happening to him. The sad thing is that it was quite obvious he got sad after he didn’t win the “trophies”; probably it is because due to his high expectations regarding the whole event. Well hopefully next year, though I don’t know how better an actor might perform than Leo has already did.
