Action movies will always be popular and commercially successful. They are all about adrenaline rush and entertainment. And when there is a hot lady involved, the whole experience gets even better. Here are some of the best female action stars.
As one of the pioneers in the female action genre, in a career filled with strong female characters, Sigourney Weaver is possibly best remembered for her role as Ellen Ripley in the Alien movies.
Garner has proven she’s someone you wouldn’t want to mess with. From her role as super spy Sydney Bristow on Alias to her starring role in Daredevil, Garner is a true action hero. And she really likes watching action movies, too. “Charlie’s Angels and Crouching Tiger are my two favorite movies. I left both of them feeling empowered and strong… It’s seeing a woman’s natural vulnerability, and overcoming that,” she said.
Jessica Alba is no stranger to action movies. She first gained action-hero fame as the lead in the TV series Dark Angel. She then went on to star as the Invisible Woman in Fantastic Four. Alba also won the MTV Movie Award for the sexiest performance for her role in Sin City.
For many years the Malaysia-born Michelle Yeoh was primarily known for her roles in Hong Kong martial arts action films. She later gained wider international fame as a Chinese spy in the 1997 James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. She is famed for performing her own stunts and it was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon that really grabbed everyone’s attention. She once said: “I was a tomboy–and still am!”
Carrie-Anne Moss has been a model and a singer, but will always be remembered as one of the best female action stars, thanks to her role in Matrix franchise. No doubt that her Trinity role from the Matrix films changed a lot of things in action films overall and how women where perceived in the genre in particular. “After the Matrix, I cannot wear sunglasses. As soon as I put them on, people recognize me,” she said.
She starred in Ally McBeal but definitely made her mark in action movies. Lucy Liu has built herself as an action actress a decade ago. With a resume that includes Kill Bill, Shanghai Noon, Ballistic, Charlie’s Angels, and even voice work on Afro Samurai, Lucy Liu is easily one of the most prolific female action stars.
Underworld elevated Kate to an iconic status but in addition to the Underworld franchise she appeared in Total Recall, Vacancy, Van Helsing and many more. She was always great in her roles portraying a sexy but in the same time deadly female characters.
Angelina has taken a range of roles during her career. She really made her action mark back in 2001 when she took on the role of Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Jolie brought a mix of strength and sexiness to this character as the movie was a box office hit. She returned to the action genre in 2005 when she teamed up with Brad Pitt for Mr & Mrs Smith. Other movies such as Salt, Wanted, Gone In 60 Seconds definitely branded her as one of the top female action stars in Hollywood.
The Kill Bill movies brought back Uma Thurman and put her Bride character in the spot of one of the most dangerous female revenging assassins ever seen on the big screen. Both Kill Bill movies are bloody and brutal and Thurman excelled after spending time training in martial arts and swordsmanship. “I had to learn two styles of kung fu, back flips, front flips, two styles of sword fighting and 100 knife throwing moves!… I have become one with my sword. I’ve had it mounted on the wall,” the actress said.
Mila is probably the most famous modern day female action star. She launched herself as an all action star when she took on the role of Alice in Resident Evil. The franchise hit the big screen for the first time back in 2002. Over the next ten years she has returned to this role for a further four movies and each time it has become more action packed and she has done more and more of the stunt work. Her role of Alice in the Resident Evil films puts all the focus on a strong female character that killed everything that moved and that’s what makes her the ultimate female action star.
Who said women cannot do it?! Some can do even better than men! This is where the special talent is shown. Al enlisted characters and actresses here did their best and made it look very real on screen. I am for the sincere play that makes the viewer enjoy the movie and even feel inside of it, no matter whether it is 3D or 2D movie. What can I say – I just admire the talent of these amazing actresses and their devotion to what they do. They look truly convincing on screen.
Wow, here is a huge list of very active women in the cinema world, honestly speaking I never had even an idea that there are so many of them, I thought there were only a few. Mmm I loved Angelina Jolie in the Lara Croft saga, I remember I read somewhere that all of the jumps and stuff she was doing by herself without using the help of a replacing actor person. I even read that she has broken a few ribs while performing, I guess that is something really worthy to be proud of, not every even male actor is able to do that, that is why I find it so enchanting probably. And Uma Thurman in the whole “Kill Bill” thing was also amazing, the sword in her arms was same as chopstick in mine, and even though I am sure I deal worse with a simple chopstick than she with that sward. Awe Gosh , I really miss watching a good action movie with a female in the main role, I am sick and tired of the action movies with guys which are in the majority of cases full of blood. The female ones are much more interesting and captivating, as they have a subject line which is impressing and quite interesting to follow.
Yeah Jessica Alba is really good in all of the action movies I saw with her. But my favorite one is the one she took place in, at the beginning of her carrier when she was just a starlet who didn’t know much about the world of cinema industry that was the most sincere one that is why it deserves my trust and respect, it was the “Dark Angel”, she was really super in it. though honestly speaking she is probably the only actress I know who managed somehow staying same good as she was in the beginning of her carrier, she doesn’t pretend, and is not eagerly looking for some friends in the higher society, she is just being herself, and it really is a good thing. I am glad for her, that she didn’t lose her own essence while becoming an actress.
Mm Sigourney Weaver, she was very hot in that movie about the scary aliens, actually in all of its parts, but honestly speaking I don’t think it is quite her genre, as she was much better in the movie where she played with Jennifer Love Hewitt, I don’t remember the name of the movie but can certainly say that it is her genre. While Carrie Anne Moss really surprised me in all of the “Matrix” parts, she performed in it, and the entire world already knew who she is and her entire biography right the second day after the release of the movie, I guess it is a good thing.
