Speaking at the launch of the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal in Sydney, Australia, Cate Blanchett gave her support to one of the country’s biggest charities.

The Salvation Army is hoping this year’s Red Shield Appeal, to be held over the weekend of May 24 and 25, will raise $80 million.

Speaking at the event, the actress compared her character in Blue Jasmine with people who are helped by the charity.

“There are so many people who don’t think they will ever need assistance and… the Salvos (Salvation Army) so often step in and help people like Blue Jasmine who perhaps thought they’d never need that help,” Cate said.

“As a parent you have many conversations with your children and the things you say are all about being compassionate, all about being gentle, all about having respect for other people, and if we don’t lead them through example then those words are incredibly hollow.”

I have always admired celebrities, who support people in need and do the charities. I am happy to see that Cate Blanchett is doing charity as well. This woman is not only a great actress, but also a very kind and generous heart and compassionate soul.
