CBS cancels Robin Williams’ comedy ‘The Crazy Ones’

After only one season executives at CBS have decided to axe comedy The Crazy Ones, which marked Robin Williams‘ return to TV.

The show, which also starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, hasn’t managed to pull in impressive ratings and earned mixed reviews from critics.

Speaking about the series, Williams has previously admitted he took the job partly for monetary reasons.

He said: “The idea of having a steady job is appealing. I have two other choices: go on the road doing stand-up, or do small, independent movies working almost for scale (minimum union pay). The movies are good, but a lot of times they don’t even have distribution.”

“NBC have chosen to renew a number of their science fiction shows including Dracula, which starred Jonathon Rhys Meyers, and Revolution, starring Joel McHale.” Uh…no. Both of those shows were cancelled, not renewed. If you’re just going to copy/paste from EW, at least make sure you get it right. The list of NBC canceled shows is: Believe, Community, Crisis, Dracula, Growing Up Fisher

I realize that CBS doesn’t launch as many midseason shows as some of the other networks. But it still doesn’t look good to me that the last CBS midseason drama and sitcom to get a second season renewal were The Unit and Rules of Engagement.

The Crazy Ones was an enormous waste of the talents of the great Hamish Linklater, James Wolk, and yeah, even SMG, who was doing her best work since Buffy. It all came down to the utterly insufferable Robin Williams – I mean, who the hell can stand him anymore? He was an intrusion on his own show. And now I’m completely annoyed that this show kept Bob Benson away from Mad Men.

I’m super excited that The Mentalist is coming back. Such a great show. Even though the red john storyline is gone or is it??????… They keep it interesting and fresh…that’s the whole point of television…
