A child star at six, Drew Barrymore became a drug addict and entered rehab at 13 and attempted suicide at 14 by slashing her wrists. “I just wanted attention and sympathy,” she said. “I certainly didn’t want to die.”However, after the attempt failed, Drew resolved to kick the habit and recover, and she is now healthy and happier than ever.

Alexa Ray Joel attempted suicide after her boyfriend broke up with her in 2009, by taking over the counter pills. “I got caught up in my own head. It was a panic. I didn’t want to die. I just didn’t want to feel what I was feeling at that moment anymore,” she later confessed about the incident.

Probably one of the most shocking celebrity suicide attempts, Owen Wilson tried to take his life in 2007, reportedly after the breakup of his relationship with actress Kate Hudson. On August 26, 2007, Owen was found bloodied and dazed after trying to commit suicide by overdosing on pills and slitting his wrist in the wake of a bitter blowup with a close pal. Wilson was taken to St. John’s Health Center amid reports of a suicide attempt. He was later transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His lawyer later confirmed that he had been undergoing treatment for depression.

The princess, who ruled the pop scene for almost a decade, with a legion of dedicated fans had her dark moments. She tried to kill herself on two separate occasions, according to an unauthorized biography. In an interview with American magazine Life & Style, Halperin, who has written the biography, says: “I spoke with her many times and went to her house. I will say the suicide attempts are true. I know all the details about both of them.”

Paris Jackson lived a life relatively outside of the spotlight until her very famous dad suddenly passed away in June 2009. Since then, the King of Pop’s only daughter has struggled to deal with his death. Last June, Paris was rushed to the hospital after trying to take her own life. She reportedly slit her wrist and took a large amount of aspirin pills. Grandma Katherine’s rep has released a statement on the teen: “Being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are. It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you. Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the family’s privacy.”

He was distraught over his then girlfriend Kim leaving him and preventing him from seeing his daughter. Eminem had a history of emotional trauma with abandonment by both his parents and this act proved as the last straw. Luckily he survived the near lethal dosage.

A then 14-year-old pregnant Winfrey attempted suicide by drinking a bottle of laundry detergent. The media mogul blames the attempt on the fact that she was so scared of coming home to her father pregnant. Winfrey’s baby died shortly after birth. Looking back on her life, the owner of her own cable network believes it was a blessing in disguise. “When the baby died, I knew that it was my second chance,” she said.
