While many celebrities spend fortunes organizing their lavish weddings, some stars opt for low-key ceremonies and tie the knot in front of only a few or no witnesses at all. Here are the celebs who got married with no fuss.
Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom
One month after announcing their engagement, Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom revealed that they had been married in a secret ceremony in 2010. Few details are known about the wedding, which was believed to have taken place in Los Angeles. One month after their wedding, the couple announced they were expecting a child. Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t last. On 25 October 2013, Bloom and Kerr announced that they had separated several months earlier.
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher
Sacha and Isla had been engaged for six years before they decided to tie the knot in 2010. They got married in Paris with a few relatives. “We did it — we’re married! It was the absolute best day of my life and in so many beautiful moments I missed you all so much. I thought of you as everything was happening, but Sacha and I wanted no fuss — just us!” Fisher told OK magazine .
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
Kelly Ripa met her husband, Mark Consuelos, on the set of ABC’s All My Children. After keeping their relationship a secret for over a year, the couple snuck off to Vegas to elope. Ripa and Consuelos continued to play married couple Hayley and Mateo on the soap opera for six years until leaving the show. Now they have three children together and Ripa is currently the co-host of Live! With Kelly and Michael. “It just happened. The next thing you know, we’re married, and then four months later we were pregnant,” Consuelos told Redbook.
Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem
The two Oscar winners had always been secretive about their relationship. That’s why it was no surprise when the couple flew out to the Bahamas for a secret ceremony. According to Hello Magazine, the bride wore a John Galliano dress, but unfortunately for the public, only her close friends and family were able to see it.
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton
Before Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt became Hollywood’s super couple, the actress eloped with Billy Bob Thornton in 2000. The couple, who used to wear vials of each other’s blood around their neck, wed in Las Vegas and were divorced two years later. It was the fifth marriage for Billy Bob Thornton, and the second for Angelina.
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
Megan Fox met her future husband, Brian Austin Green, when she was just 18 years old. The couple started dating and were engaged a couple years later but soon found themselves in an on-and-off relationship until the former Beverly Hills 90210 actor popped the question again in June of 2010. They married in a private ceremony on June 24th on Hawaii’s big island. They are still together and have two sons, Noah Shannon Green and Bodhi Ransom Green.
Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford
The long-term couple, who have been dating for eight years, finally tied the knot in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2010. The ceremony, which took place at the governor’s mansion, took everyone by surprise. The wedding guests had no idea the couple was getting married.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon tied the knot in the Bahamas in 2008, after dating less than two months. Since their quickie wedding, they have renewed their vows each year in locations such as the Maldives, their Beverly Hills home, Paris and most recently Disneyland. The couple also welcomed twins Monroe and Morocco.
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt
Reality stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt quietly eloped at the One & Only Palmilla Resort in Mexico in November 2008. In April 2009, the couple decided to officially marry in a church ceremony in Pasadena, Calif. Pratt and Montag announced they were getting a divorce but later admitted they staged the whole thing because they were broke. “We felt the hot-air balloon losing its gas. And at that stage, our income would be selling the photo that would go along with the divorce,” said Pratt.
Bette Midler and Martin Rochus Sebastian von Haselberg
Some couples date for years before they decide to wed, but Bette Midler did it just a few weeks after meeting artist Martin Rochus Sebastian von Haselberg. An Elvis impersonator at The Starlight Chapel in Las Vegas married Midler and Von Haselberg in 1984. A few years ago, Midler and von Haselberg received a surprise: the owner of The Starlight Chapel sent them their wedding photos. “The guy closed the chapel and sent us the pictures,” Midler told People magazine. They are still together.
Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall
These two met at work while playing brother and sister on the award-winning Showtime series Dexter. After dating for a year, Hall and Carpenter eloped on New Year’s Eve in 2008. It took them over a year to come out as a married couple, and a year after that the two announced their separation.
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott
The couple met on the set of the TV movie Mind Over Murder. At the time, Tori was married to Charlie Shanian, and Dean was married to his wife of 12 years, Mary Jo Eustace. In May 2006, Tori and Dean eloped on private tropical island in Fiji with no guests present. They have four kids together: Finn Davey McDermott, Hattie Margaret McDermott, Liam Aaron McDermott and Stella Doreen McDermott.
