Having money and fame doesn’t mean one is protected from bad things and, no matter how powerful they are, celebrities aren’t immune to tragedy. Losing a child is certainly one of the most painful things that can happen to someone and these stars have experienced that.
Bill Cosby
Bill Cosby’s son Ennis was shot and killed on January 16, 1997. He was 27. Ennis Cosby was shot and killed by a Ukrainian immigrant named Mikhail Markhasev. He was arrested and tried for his murder. He was then given a life sentence without parole with an addition of 10 years. Bill Cosby eventually founded the “Hello Friend/ Ennis William Cosby foundation” in his memory to help children with special needs.
Marie Osmond
Osmond’s son Michael Blosil took his own life in 2010. Michael had been in rehab in 2007 for an undisclosed reason, and appeared to have been suffering from depression. He left a note explaining his suicide with a roommate before jumping off a building in Los Angeles. At the time, Michael was thought to be recovering from his depression, and there was also rumors that he felt pressure from his mother to suppress his possible homosexuality – she later commented stating that she didn’t believe her son to be gay.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston
John Travolta and Kelly Preston were devastated by the loss of their 16-year-old son Jett in 2009 while holidaying in the Bahamas. Jett was autistic and suffered from a condition called Kawasaki syndrome, which causes seizures, and died after having a seizure and hitting his head on the bathtub. “Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered,” John wrote on his website. “We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time that we had with him for the rest of our lives.”
Sylvester Stallone
The star lost his 36-year old son Sage in 2012. He was found dead with prescription bottles, causing many to speculate that he died of a drug overdose. However, Lt. Fred Corral revealed that only a small and “acceptable level” of hydrocodone showed up in Sage’s toxicology report. Reuters reported that Sage suffered from atherosclerosis. It is a coronary heart disease that caused his heart attack.
Mia Farrow
Mia Farrow has tragically lost two daughters. The first, named Lark, died aged 35 from an unknown illness on Christmas day. In 2000, Mia was once again grief-stricken when another daughter, Tam, died from heart failure at 19-years-old.
Dr. Dre
Dr. Dre’s son, Andre Young, Jr., died in August 2008 in his Woodland Hills, California home. He was 20 years old. Young was discovered in his bed by his mother, Jenita Porter. He died from an overdose of heroin and morphine, the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner confirmed. “This case has been closed, it’s been ruled an accident due to morphine and heroin intoxication,” coroner spokesman Larry Dietz said.
Eric Clapton
Conor Clapton, son of rock legend Eric Clapton died in 1990. The boy, who was only four years old, fell down from the 53rd floor of a New York skyscraper when a window cleaner left a window open after cleaning it. Eric wrote a song “Tears in Heaven” in tribute of his son Conor.
Mike Tyson
Heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter, Exodus, died from accidental asphyxiation on May 25, 2009 after she got tangled up in the cord from a treadmill in her family’s home. Police stated it was an accident, saying the child was playing on or near the treadmill when she became tangled in the cord. The girl’s mother was administering CPR when paramedics arrived. The girl died a day later.
