Celebrities who were bullied as kids

School days can be very tough on some kids. Those who were victims of childhood bullies know how painful this experience can be. The following celebrities understand this all too well, as they were bullied in school.

Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson is a gorgeous woman, but in the past others bullied her about the way she looked. While her figure is amazing today, when she was younger she was a late bloomer. This of course made her subject to all sorts of bullying as she was called a tomboy because of her flat chest. Little did those people know that she would go on to be a famous actress, with curves in all the right places.

Christian Bale

He is a popular and respected actor today, but Christian’s schoolmates had a different opinion. “I was a victim of bullying and had other kids kicking and punching me every day. It was an early lesson in how making a film can set you apart. If you don’t want to live with the consequences then don’t make the film,” Christian Bale told Contact Music.

Kate Winslet

The woman who starred in what used to be highest grossing film of all time, Titanic, was tormented relentlessly in school for her weight, was nicknamed “Blubber,” and was even locked in the art cupboard at one point. She says she still suffers to this day from feelings of insecurity because of those experiences more than 25 years later.

Megan Fox

“Usually the bullies are the most insecure,” Megan said. “I was bullied and it’s hard, you feel like high school’s never going to be over. It’s four years of your life and you just have to remember the person picking on you has their own problems and their own issues. And you’re going to be OK.”

Pierce Brosnan

“I moved to London from Ireland when I was 11. I was an outsider and that made it difficult. I was ribbed a lot because of my accent and was nicknamed ‘Irish’. I was also very shy – which didn’t help. But the important thing is I survived the experience,” the actor said.

Rihanna

Growing up in Barbados, Rihanna was the victim of bullying because of the color of her skin. Because of her light complexion, she was often teased for being white, and her green eyes didn’t make matters any better for her. She’s now a platinum recording artist and continues to top the charts with her music.

Jason Segel

“Well, it’s just one terrible memory that replays every time I have a moment of insecurity,” Segel told YoungHollywood.com about being called names when he was young. “My classmates would stand around me in a circle and they would jump on my back one by one and they would chant, ‘Ride the oaf, ride the oaf’.”

Winona Ryder

Because of her boyish looks and Salvation Army shop clothes, she was called a boy and the epitaph for homosexuality (use your imagination). The bullies pounced quickly and relentlessly. Once, her head was slammed into the lockers and she was kicked repeatedly. Fast forward to adulthood and Ryder is an international superstar as an actor. She’s in a coffee shop signing autographs and one of girls who kicked her back in middle school came to ask for an autograph. Here’s how Ryder responded: “You remember that kid you beat up in 7th grade?” Ryder asked. “Kind of,” answered her former bully. “That was me. Go f— yourself,” Ryder retorted.

Tom Cruise

“So many times the big bully comes up, pushes me. Your heart’s pounding, you sweat, and you feel like you’re going to vomit. I’m not the biggest guy, I never liked hitting someone, but I know if I don’t hit that guy hard he’s going to pick on me all year. I go, ‘You better fight.’ I just laid it down. I don’t like bullies,” Cruise told Parade magazine in 2006.

Jessica Alba

“I was bullied so badly my dad used to have to walk me into school so I didn’t get attacked. I’d eat my lunch in the nurses’ office so I didn’t have to sit with the other girls. Apart from my being mixed race, my parents didn’t have money so I never had the cute clothes or the cool backpack,” Alba told the U.K.’s Daily Mirror.
