Gilbert Gottfried has always been the sort of comic that says the most offensive and surprising thing possible to get a laugh and to shock people so much that even if they don’t think it’s funny they don’t have the energy to get angry. They just sit there with mouths hanging open. After 9/11 he made some seriously tasteless jokes about planes at a roast of Hugh Hefner but saved himself from disaster by telling the most tasteless joke in the history of comedy. This time he hasn’t been able to save himself because his jokes about Japan and the tsunami were on Twitter.
He put them out there for the whole world to see and he basically spent the whole day doing them. Over and over and over he told silly jokes (some of them pretty hacky) about Japan and the big wave. Aflac has since fired him as the voice of the duck. That was a pretty sweet gig, I would imagine. He really only had one line and he probably didn’t have to do it that much while making a pretty good sum of cash. Sadly, Aflac does 75% of its business in Japan so he really shouldn’t have been putting up those Tweets. Silly Gilbert. Now he’s a little less rich.
