Hollywood single moms

Being a celebrity has its perks but it also has some downsides. For instance, it can be hard to maintain healthy relationship due to all the pressure of love in the spotlight. Therefore, it’s no surprise that many celebs end up divorced eventually and when it comes to kids, the rules are the same as with the rest of us, which means custody battles and single parents. Here are some of the most famous single moms.

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams had her daughter Matilda with her ex-boyfriend Heath Ledger in 2005. The couple split amicably in 2007 before Heath was tragically found dead following an accidental overdose in 2008. “You make it work. You keep getting out of bed. Sometimes it’s just because you know there’s a cup of coffee downstairs. It’s my new normal,” Williams said in 2010.

Sandra Bullock

She went through a messy break-up with her ex-husband Jesse James. The couple had started proceedings to adopt a son, Louis Bardo Bullock. Sandra continued with the plans and is now a single mother. Proud to adopt a child, Sandra has talked about the first time she met her son. “The first time I met Louis, it was like the whole outside world got quiet,” she said. “It was like he had always been a part of our lives. All I said when I met him was, ‘Oh, there you are.’ He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him any other way.”

Katie Holmes

After a very public break-up between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, the couple decided Katie should have primary custody over their daughter Suri. It was believed the split came as Suri was reaching the age at which she would have to undergo a psychological examination under Tom’s faith of Scientology. She’s moved daughter Suri, to New York, where they registered at a new church. After the super-fast settlement (hammered out within two weeks of the filing), Holmes has primary custody of her daughter, but dad has visitation rights.

Minnie Driver

Minnie Driver, mom of Henry, now 4, called her first year of single motherhood “an insane earthquake. There’s no time to pick up the guitar, much less go for a walk or have a beer.” But since, the actress seems to have gotten the hang of things. “There’s no amount of hassle that could be bigger than my love of Henry,” said Driver.

Denise Richards

She is some sort of super-mom. Denise has two daughters with her ex-husband Charlie Sheen. She later adopted a third daughter, Eloise Joni, as a single parent. And in May 2013 the actress was awarded temporary custody of Charlie’s twins Bob and Max, who were born to his third wife Brooke Mueller. Here’s her advice to other single moms: “The best gift a parent can give children is time. But also moms need to know it’s okay to have a little ‘me’ time. You’ll feel refreshed and you’ll be a better mom!”

Teri Hatcher

Teri Hatcher had her daughter Emerson Rose in 1997, during her second marriage to actor Jon Tenney. They divorced in 2003 and she has been a single mom ever since. The two of them are extremely close and are often seen on the red carpet together.
