January Jones: ‘I Don’t Know What I’m Doing Most of the Time’

J January Jones plays the role of Betty Francis in the popular TV show Mad Men. In an interview with HitFix talked about the experience of working on the show.

John Slattery recently said that January had great ability to be in-the-moment when on set. Her comment was rather interesting: “Well, I have no formal training. I don’t know what the hell I’m doing most of the time. I’m just waiting for someone to call me a fraud. Go ahead! I work on instinct, but I’m a good reader and I can memorize things by looking at them once. If I have a lot of time to think about something and break it down and ‘Would she do this? Would she do that?’ then it just becomes too jumbled in my head and I just don’t feel that it’s real.” Betty

January also commented on her character Betty, saying: “I feel like she’s so ever-evolving and it feels almost like a different character each season, because she’s constantly changing. I don’t feel like I know her well enough to just take for granted that I’ll know what to do. I really see her as a real person in that she is changing and trying to do different things.”
