Dylan Farrow’s open letter, in which she accuses her adopted father Woody Allen of abusing her at the age of seven, has caused a lot of stir.
People are taking sides and while many celebrities have expressed their support for the Blue Jasmine director, Lena Dunham praised Dylan for being so brave and for openly speaking about the abuse.
The 27-year-old actress shared a link to Dylan’s letter on Twitter and wrote: ”To share in this way is courageous, powerful and generous. Please read.” She also added: ”Grateful my timeline is full of so much love and respect for Dylan.”
However, some of Lena’s followers suggested Dylan had falsely accused her famous father, but the Girls creator hit back at them.
She wrote: ”In wake of Dylan’s letter I’ve noticed a lot of guys obsessed with the idea of being falsely accused. As if you would just be walking down the street one day, get accused of assault or sexual misconduct, and suddenly life would derail … Though there have, of course, been plenty of terrible and unjust cases in the past, remember … Most victims NEVER speak up. Most never feel they can. These are not stories we tell for fun, attention or revenge.”
Thanks to Lena for her candid opening. I hope this made her feel better and brought attention of the necessary people to the problem. I know this won’t help her to get back in time and change the things, but I hope she feels better sharing it with others. Once the woe is shared is no longer only yours.
