Lucy Liu covers the No. 2 issue of Emmy magazine, which hits the newsstands on April 11. Lucy started her acting career in 1989 when she got the lead role in University of Michigan’s production of Alice in Wonderland during her senior year of college. In 1990 she told The New York Times: “There aren’t many Asian roles, and it’s very difficult to get your foot in the door.”

However, she has played in numerous movies and TV shows since 1991. Today Lucy is one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood and she spoke about being ethnic for Emmy magazine. “I don’t think it was specific to television. I think it was the industry in general. There were not a lot of Asians in Hollywood at that time, or they were not as prominent as they are now. So the options were limited,” the actress said.
