Monaco royal family slams Nicole Kidman’s Grace Kelly biopic

Nicole Kidman’s new movie, Grace Kelly biopic Grace of Monaco, is set to open the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, but Monaco’s royals are not pleased by the movie, calling it a “farce”.

Kidman portrays late Grace Kelly in the biopic, but Prince Albert of Monaco and his sisters Princess Stephanie and Princess Caroline claim the movie does not accurately show events involving their mother.

The Prince’s Palace issued a statement, which read: “On the occasion of the upcoming screening of the film ‘Grace of Monaco’ at the opening of the Cannes Festival on May 14 and its release in theaters the Prince’s Palace would like to reiterate that this feature cannot under any circumstances be classified as a biopic.”

“The trailer appears to be a farce and confirms the totally fictional nature of this film,” the statement continued. “It reinforces the certainty, left after reading the script, that this production … is based on erroneous and dubious historical references.”

“The Princely Family does not in any way wish to be associated with this film, which reflects no reality and regrets that its history has been misappropriated for purely commercial purposes,” the statement concludes.

Grace of Monaco will officially open the 67th Cannes festival on May 14, when it will be simultaneously released in France and several cities around the world.

UM, if they wrote 100% truthfully, it would be quite the saga…and can we include the lives of her children too? these people should be glad its not going that way. They have lived much of their lives like street trash.

The ‘family’ doesn’t want any truth of Grace to show. And the movie didn’t,… only a few hints. Grace had a very healthy appetite that wasn’t hidden. We, who still have vivid memories of the beautiful Hollywood Grace, also knew that the ‘Hollywood Grace’ was not the Grace that her family want’s anyone to know…after all … they weren’t even born yet, but are trying to re-right history, and Grace was not a ‘saint’ in real life, far from it…and very much like her daughters, only with more class. Just as Grace was looked down on by her prince for being an actress, Diana’s husband looked down on her for loving to dance. Yes, Diana and Grace had very much in common! I hope before their passing that they knew how much they were appreciated by their fans.

I don’t think it matters whether or not Kidman is too old to play the part, what matters is whether or not this movie is true to Kelly’s life or not. I would prefer that they stick to her Hollywood life. I think the Weinstein company are very likely to back out of this film.
