With fame comes money and with money comes excessive spending. And celebrities tend to spend crazy amounts of cash on their weddings, even though most of these marriages end in divorce. Kanye West has recently revealed that he and Kim Kardashian are planning the most amazing wedding so we can only wait and see how much it will cost. But in the meantime, let’s check out some of the most expensive celebrity weddings so far.
Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti
Actress Ashley Judd and her race car driver husband headed to Scotland for their nuptials in December 2001. They were wed at Skibo Castle, Andrew Carnegie’s former home which dates to the 12th century. Judd wore an Armani gown while her husband wore the traditional Scottish kilt. Estimated cost of this wedding is $750,000. Ashley and Dario separated in January 2013.
Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston
Though they divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage, their short union is still an interesting topic for celebrity gossip magazines. The wedding ceremony was held in Malibu at the home of TV producer Marcy Carsey. Approximately 50,000 flowers decorated the house for the star-studded wedding which cost about $1 million.
Tori Spelling and Charlie Shanian
Tori Spelling chose a “Great Gatsby” theme for her marriage to Charlie Shanian. She wore a beaded Badgley Mischka gown and a diamond and platinum headband. The wedding was held in the sprawling Spelling estate in Los Angeles and it cost $1 million. Guests were given a treat with a champagne fountain and meals catered by Wolfgang Puck. The couple divorced after two short years.
Madonna and Guy Ritchie
Madonna made sure to make her wedding to director Guy Ritchie a lavish affair. Estimated cost of the wedding is $1.5 million. Like Judd and Franchitti, the two married at Skibo Castle. Madonna wore a Stella McCartney gown and a tiara that formerly belonged to Princess Grace of Monaco. They divorced in 2008 and have two children: Rocco, born four month prior to the wedding, and David, who was adopted in 2006.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
Douglas and Zeta-Jones’ $1.5 million wedding took place at New York’s Plaza Hotel, which was decorated with 20,000 cream-colored roses. Bonnie Tyler and Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall as well as a 40-member Welsh choir entertained guests. The bride wore Christian Lacroix. They are separated at the moment, but working on their marriage.
The costly affair — estimated at around $2 million — which took place at a 15th-century Italian castle, included $180,000 spent on 300 bottles of wine, a Giorgio Armani-clad wedding party, and Andrea Boccelli entertaining guests. The pair split in 2012.
Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar
It was an eight-day ceremony that cost about $2.5 million. The first ceremony was in Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire. The second took place in the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. Elizabeth wore a Donatella Versace wedding gown for one ceremony, and traditional Indian garb for the other. They divorced in 2011 after four years of marriage.
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills
The June 2002 wedding took place in Ireland’s St. Salvador Church. The estimated cost is $3 million. The wedding had a traditional Indian theme, complete with dancers and a vegetarian reception. McCartney wrote a song for the ceremony and performed at the reception. The couple divorced in 2008.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
It is said that Justin and Jessica spent around $6.5 million on their wedding at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy in 2012. They gave their guests little gift bags and Justin wrote and performed a song for his wife. These two are still married.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries treated themselves to a lavish wedding with an estimated price tag of $10 million. They said their “I do’s” at Montecito’s swanky Sotto Il Monte estate in front of over 1,000 guests. Kim donned 3 Vera Wang gowns for the big day, totaling an estimated $60,000. Over $2 million was reportedly forked over just for flowers on the special day. The happy couple spent exactly 72 days married before filing for separation.
Once again a great example that money doesn’t buy us happiness!!! Watch how many of this marriages lasted. The majority have split already. It is cool to have a lavish wedding, but marriage is what should be a center of attention. I still wonder what Kim Kradashian needed a marriage that lasted only 73 days or so, for? It is cool to have fun and celebrate like kings, but the essence is your family happiness, do not forget this, Hollywood celebs!
