There’s some strange connection between celebrities and court. Famous people tend to get involved in various lawsuits. The truth is, mostly they end up in court just to defend themselves from people trying to make money off their fame, but from time to time stars are the ones that file lawsuits and some of them are quite ridiculous. Check out the most bizarre ones.
In July 2011, Kim filed a lawsuit against Old Navy for using her lookalike in an ad. She claimed that the company’s use of a model who looked like her might confuse consumers about her actual endorsements, which include a clothing store and shoe line. The lawsuit was over a commercial titled “Super C-U-T-E,” which featured Canadian singer-model Melissa Molinaro. An attorney for Old Navy said that Molinaro was famous in her own right and her appearance in the ad wasn’t intended to draw similarities to the reality TV starlet. Kardashian was seeking unspecified damages and an order barring Old Navy from using a lookalike model again. “The lawsuit was resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties,” the two sides said in a joint statement. No details about the settlement were filed with the court.
Lindsay Lohan filed a lawsuit against financial-services company E-Trade on March 8, 2010, saying one of its television ads “used her name and characterization” without her permission. Essentially, Lohan thought her first name was recognizable enough in the context of the commercial that it was obvious they were mocking her directly. She’s since dropped the suit.
Lohan also sued Pitbull for the lyric “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan” in his hit song “Give Me Everything.” She believed it was a reference to her jail time. Pitbull apologized and said he meant no harm, but he also counter-sued, claiming his lyric is supported by Lohan’s multiple criminal charges and jail stints. The courts sided with Pitbull.
In 2008, fast-food chain Taco Bell tried to make a joke and sent a letter to various publications asking rapper 50 Cent to change his name to “79 Cent,” “89 Cent,” or “99 Cent” to help promote some of their menu items. The rapper didn’t think it was funny and sued. The case was settled out of court.
Tara sued a Las Vegas condo company after they launched an ad campaign with the tagline “Dear Tara Reid, Come Let It All Hang Out.” The American Pie actress sued the owners of the condo project in March 2005, saying the advertisement misrepresented her as “sexually lewd or immoral” and suggested that her wardrobe malfunction at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ 35th birthday party was intentional. Reid’s lawsuit sought to bar Sky Las Vegas from continuing to run the ads. The case was dismissed on Dec. 6, 2005, after a partial settlement was reached.
Kate Winslet actually won $40,000 from UK news outlet The Daily Mail when she sued them for damaging her reputation. The lawsuit stemmed from a Mail article pronouncing Winslet as “the most irritating actress” in the world and also accused the actress of lying about her workout regimen.
In her 2008 memoir Send Yourself Roses, actress Kathleen Turner alleged that Nicolas Cage, with whom she’d worked back in 1986, had been arrested for drunk driving and had also snatched a dog. Cage sued Turner, her book publisher and the newspaper that ran an excerpt. The defendants said they were wrong and apologized, paid Cage’s legal fees and made a donation to a charity.
Kanye West’s lawyers have taken aim at the creators of Coinye West, a new version of online currency, in a bid to block its launch. The creators decided to rename the online money Coinye, alter the cartoon, and change the domain before launching the currency.
In 2010, News of the World published a story about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s supposed split, going into detail about their joint custody agreement and even naming a divorce lawyer. The lawyer came out and said he had never even met the couple. Brad and Angie condemned the rumors and sued News of the World. They won.
All people want money and fame, well most of them at least. When you have celebrities, who already have them, some of us are daring enough to take advantage of their bad situation or invent something to snap the piece form the cake. Thank to the righteous and all-mighty court most of the issues are settles in justice. It is so awkward when people try to earn money by pouring mud on others, especially famous people.
I think sometimes the mass media is over reacting which results in some very bad things, such as people fighting with each other or even broking up and throwing their love away. Rumors can really not simple change life, but even destroy it. I remember a long time ago I read about the story where Angie and Brad were breaking up, it was not a lot of fun, as of course they had some contracts for filming and stuff, and eventually that has affected their carrier, but I am glad that they sued the media and got not a small amount of money, this way people who damaged their life, well tried damaging their life, were punished. Hmm, though honestly speaking I am not sure that it will make them stop doing such things as writing non sense. I am very happy for Angelina and Brad Pitt, I am proud of them as a couple, as they were able to endure many things together, even something as terrifying as cancer. And I am very glad that in this kind of moments they stayed together and Brad supported his gorgeous wife as much as he could, I guess that is the type of the family that every woman is seeking for, I think Angelina Jolie is a very lucky woman for having such a husband as Brad.
Well Tara Reid has really messed up on P Diddy’s birthday so what she was expecting after that? That the media and newspapers will forget about that all out of the sudden just because she looks good? Of course not, she has shown some intolerable behavior for a woman that led her to this kind of consequences, everything is pretty fair. Especially considering the fact that it is media, and newspapers or magazines often write lots of things that never even happened in reality, so that article about her was not that much into making her look bad, as a joke based on the movies where she performed and on the behavior she shows in public. I mean it is pretty obvious that you cannot pretend that you are all so nice and innocent while showing your boobies being obviously drunk and maybe even on a drug while partying that is obvious isn’t it? So everything that happens -happens for a reason.
Ha ha Lindsay Lohan! Seriously after everything that girl has done, and after all the possible ways she have humiliated herself and her entire family she still is trying to say something and to sue someone? That is hilarious, if I was on her place than I would probably bite my tongue and kept my mouth shut, as it she already has done and said too many things. Mmm, I know that for some time she was very good friends with Paris Hilton, I am wondering how did it happen that all of Paris Hilton friends who were good girls with good reputation before partying with her, started abusing alcohol or drugs, and after that went through a huge depression while she managed to stay in a great shape and not abusing anything but continuing her carrier and stuff. Like for example of her friends beside Lindsay Lohan were Britney Spears (in the worst period of her life) or Nicole Richie.
