Love triangles have always existed, but in Hollywood these situations happen quite often, and not only on screen. Celebrity relationships and breakups can be scandalous, especially with all the media attention, but when there is a third person involved, things get really juicy. Here are some of the most memorable celebrity love triangles.
Richie Sambora, Heather Locklear, Denise Richards
After 12 years of marriage, in 2007, rocker Richie Sambora and Heather Locklear filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause. Just months after the split, the legendary Bon Jovi guitarist began dating one of Locklear’s best friends, Denise Richards, who, after break-up with Charlie Sheen, found herself newly single as well. The relationship definitely harmed long-time friendship of Locklear and Richards.
Mary Louise Parker, Billy Crudup, Claire Danes
In 2003, Billy Crudup left Mary Louise Parker, his partner of eight years, for Claire Danes. And the worst part is that Parker was seven months pregnant with his son at the time. Billy fell in love with Danes while they were shooting the forgettable Stage Beauty. The couple stayed together for three years before they broke it off in December of 2006.
Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid, Russell Crowe
After nine years of marriage, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid looked like they would be one of the few Hollywood couples that could stand the test of time. However, after Meg met Russell Crowe on the set of 2000’s Proof of Life, that proved not to be the case. Soon after hooking up with Crowe on set, Meg and Dennis announced their divorce. In later years, Ryan alleged that the split wasn’t all her fault. The actress claimed that Quaid was unfaithful during their marriage as well.
Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Rupert Sanders
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were the hottest couple in Hollywood. Their chemistry was evident on-screen in Twilight, as well as off screen on various red carpet events. When pictures leaked showing Kristen cheating on Rob with the married director, Sanders, the internet exploded. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry,” Stewart said in a statement. She and Rob reconciled after a while, but shortly after that they split again.
Billy Bob Thornton, Laura Dern, Angelina Jolie
For those of you who don’t remember, Angelina Jolie used to be a true wild child and she was once married to Billy Bob Thornton. The only problem is that when Angie met Billy he was actually engaged to Laura Dern, but broke it off as soon as he and Jolie hit it off. Commenting on the situation, Dern’s quoted as saying, “I left our home to go and make a movie and while I was away, my boyfriend got married and I never heard from him again.”
Mia Farrow, Woody Allen, Soon-Yi Previn
In one of the Hollywood’s biggest scandals, the 12-year relationship between Farrow and Allen ended in 1992 when Farrow found Allen with naked pictures of her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi. Though most people felt that Allen and Soon-Yi’s relationship was akin to incest, Soon-Yi has claimed that she never viewed Allen as a father. The pair married in 1997 and has somehow managed to become one of the longest-lasting celeb couples in Hollywood. This relationship is still going strong. In fact, the two have a child together.
Debbie Reynolds, Eddie Fisher, Elizabeth Taylor
This triangle is of the best-known scandals in Hollywood history. When Taylor’s third husband, Mike Todd died in 1958, his best friend, Fisher, was there to comfort the grieving widow and eventually fell in love with her, much to the dismay of Fisher’s wife, Reynolds. Fisher divorced Reynolds and married Taylor the following year, and Taylor’s reputation as a femme fatale was born. Four years later, while filming Cleopatra, Taylor found herself at the center of another triangle when she fell in love with her co-star, Richard Burton, for whom she left Fisher in 1964.
Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie
The love triangle between Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is the one we’ll never forget. It was on the set of 2005 film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, where Pitt, who at that point had been with Aniston for seven years and married to her for two, met Angelina Jolie. The chemistry between the two on set was described as palpable, and soon after production wrapped, so did Brad and Jen’s marriage. Soon after that, began the union of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, one which continues to this day. After seven years and five children, the two superstars announced their engagement this past April.
