Oprah Winfrey faces racism in Switzerland

2011-topic-celeb-oprah During her recent trip to Switzerland, Oprah Winfrey had a very unpleasant experience in one store in Zurich. She was a victim of racism when a shop assistant refused to serve her because she was black.

The talk show host went to Zurich to attend Tina Turner’s wedding on July 13 and she wanted to buy a luxury purse but apparently the saleswoman in the store thought the purse was too expensive for a black woman, even though the woman was Oprah herself.

I didn’t have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear… But obviously The Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich. I go into a store and I say to the woman, ‘Excuse me, could I see the bag right above your head?’ and she says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive…’ So I left the store… There’s two different ways to handle it. I could’ve had the whole blow-up thing… but why do that? Racism still exists, of course it does,” Winfrey said.
