Pierce Brosnan: My James Bond was never good enough

Speaking to The Telegraph, Pierce Brosnan has admitted he is not satisfied with his portrayal of the famous British spy James Bond. He called his performance tame and superficial and has revealed he hates watching himself as 007.

“I felt I was caught in a time warp between Roger and Sean,” said Brosnan. “It was a very hard one to grasp the meaning of, for me. The violence was never real, the brute force of the man was never palpable. It was quite tame, and the characterization didn’t have a follow-through of reality, it was surface. But then that might have had to do with my own insecurities in playing him as well.”

“I have no desire to watch myself as James Bond. ‘Cause it’s just never good enough. It’s a horrible feeling,” he added.

In fairness he had some pretty terrible scripts to work with, invisible cars anyone?
Gems of cringe inducing corny dialogue like this?
James Bond: [in bed with Jones] I was wrong about you.
Dr. Christmas Jones: Yeah, how so?
James Bond: I thought Christmas only comes once a year.
I think given the tools he would have done the job, but the high camp ethos still remaining from the Moore years would have made it pretty much impossible for anyone

Very honest of him, I would love to disagree but he is pretty much spot on. To be fair, he was stuck in an era where the gritty, darker Bond would not have worked and you have to work with the script and the director. The invisible car, for example, was nothing to do with his acting or the dreadful CGI , etc etc. He was cast to play a certain style of Bond (Remington Steel) in the same way the Moore was cast to play Simon Templer. They weren’t really asked to stretch themselves.

Well, honestly speaking I think it is a good thing that Pierce Brosnan is being so self critical. I guess it is important to have this feature of character for a star, as it means two important things: first of all is that this star will try to perform better next time, and the second of all is that this star no matter all the things that fame is bringing, has managed somehow to stay a normal person who is not up to some vicious things which people are usually doing. If mentioning my own opinion, I would say that I loved Agent 007 performed by Brosnan, and I am sure that millions of other people loved it as well. So I guess it is the time for Pierce to stop worrying about it. It is about time.

I totally agree with Pierce Brosnan, his agent 007 simply sucked, as the many other agents after him, anyways, I guess there best agent 007 ever was Sean Connery. I don’t even understand how one man can have so much charisma in himself! I think it is really amazing! I guess Sean Connery is same as Clark Gable, they both have same mischievous smile, and though you cannot call them the most beautiful men in the world, there is something about them that makes you think like wow I want to be with this man. Maybe it is the confidence that they are radiating, or maybe it is the obvious masculinity and the feeling that you will be safe behind the back of such a man, well I honestly have no idea what is this, but that’s my opinion.

I think it was about time for Pierce Brosnan to finally realize that he sucked in such a movie. I mean how could he, considering the fact that only a very few actors were honored with a role in such an epic movie. I believe there are millions of people in the world, who are thinking the same way as he does, but still, there is nothing he can do about it, so I guess it is the moment when he should stop complaining and start doing something about his performance in the other movies he is engaged with right now, and hopefully they will not suck as this one.
