After getting arrested for disorderly conduct when her husband was stopped by the police on suspicion of DUI, Reese Witherspoon apologized for her behavior. “I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” she said in the statement. “It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”
Police stopped Reese and her husband after seeing their car weaving across a double-lined street, according to Atlanta police report. The officer told Witherspoon to stay in the car while he performed a sobriety test on her husband. The actress refused to obey the orders and said she was a U.S. citizen and had the right to stand on American ground.
The officer said: “I put my hands on Mrs. Witherspoon’s arms to arrest her. She was resistant but I was able to put handcuffs on her without incident due to Mr. Toth calming her.” The actress told him: “You’re about to find out who I am. You are going to be on national news.”
