Deadiline reports that Robert De Niro will star in the upcoming boxing drama Hands of Stone. Edgar Ramirez has also signed on for the movie. It is based on the life of boxing champion Roberto Duran, who is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time. Ramirez is set to play the legendary boxer while De Niro will portray his trainer Ray Arcel.
The story will focus on the relationship between these two men and how they changed each other’s lives. Production is scheduled for September in Panama, the boxer’s home country. Duran had a great boxing career with the record of 103 wins out of 119 fights. The most remembered fight was the one in November 1980 with another boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard when Duran gave up during the eighth round, crying “No mas” (“No more” in Spanish).
Jonathan Jakubowicz, the director and writer of the film said: “The infamous ‘No mas’ fight is the biggest enigma in the history of boxing. This movie will answer the enigma, with the best talent any director can possibly dream.” Jay Weisleder will produce alongside Jakubowicz and Duran will be an associate producer.
