Robert Downey Jr.‘s son was arrested for cocaine possession on Sunday afternoon.

20-year-old Indio Downey was taken into custody after being pulled over by police while driving in the West Hollywood-area around 2:20 p.m.

The police officials told TMZ that officers noticed he was smoking a suspicious substance from a pipe while riding in the passenger seat of a car near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Cienega. A deputy of the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s department allegedly found cocaine in Indio’s possession and he was detained. He was released on $10,250, bail on Monday.

Following his son’s arrest, Robert Downey Jr. spoke to E! News and said he was thankful to the police for their intervention and that the family would certainly get him the help he needs.

indioHe said: “Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”

Robert himself battled drug addiction in the past. He went to rehab several times and even ended up in the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison.
