Stars who went to rehab at young age

It has recently been revealed that Selena Gomez checked into rehab last month. She spent two weeks in recovery center in Arizona. While her rep denies drug abuse, it is rumored that the singer/actress checked into rehab for a combination of problems, including alcohol, marijuana and some prescription drugs. Whatever the reason for seeking help, Selena has joined the list of young stars who spent time in rehab.

“I’ve been to rehab seven times and to two mental institutions. My mum even had me put in a padded cell once to scare me, but like a brat I just sat it out until she said, ‘Well, that’s not going to work’,” Kelly told Cosmopolitan earlier this year. Having always been honest about her personal struggles, she is also a good example of a teen star who has been off the rails but later taken control of her life. “What I’ve learnt is that no amount of therapy or medication is going to work unless you want it to. Until you want to be a good person, you will never be one,” she added.

It was a long time ago, but it’s worth remembering that the first child star to have a very public battle with drink and drugs was Drew Barrymore. The story of her troubled teen years has become legendary in Hollywood. Eventually she overcame her problems and went on to have a very successful career as an adult, appearing as a leading lady in films such as Never Been Kissed and Ever After and running her own production company Flower Films. Her experiences prove that even in Hollywood adolescent problems don’t have to define your whole career.

Before she broke into the teen pop world, Britney Spears was a Mouseketeer on Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club in the early 90’s and by the early 2000s she was the biggest female pop star on the planet. However things started going wrong for Britney after her divorce from Kevin Federline. In 2007 she entered a drug rehabilitation clinic, leaving after less than a day. She then had a very public meltdown which included shaving her head in view of the paparazzi. This incident led her to enter rehab for a second time. In January 2008 she was committed to a psychiatric ward put on a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold, her father would later be given conservatorship of her by the courts. Things later seemed to settle down for Britney as she began to build her career back. She went back to recording music and performing live soon after and released her latest album Britney Jean in 2013.

His life took a radical turn when he turned 18 and was filming Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince. “I became so reliant on alcohol to enjoy the stuff… There were a few years where I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me,” he said.

High School Musical star Zac Efron caused shock when he revealed last year he had entered rehab. Though it’s not clearly what exactly the star was being treated for, he recently opened up on his time there telling People magazine “I learned so many things. So much. The best part of it was being able to reflect upon that experience and realize how much I have learned about myself and the kind of man I want to be.”

Super cute Lindsay had the world at her feet ever since she appeared in The Parent Trap and was set for big things after 2004’s Mean Girls. But the former Disney starlet went into self-destruct mode with numerous misdemeanors, court appearances, and jail sentences. Lohan has had numerous rehab stints and arrests all of which have taken focus away from her acting career. Her latest rehab stint ended last August.

I see that fame and money provide so much freedom for youngsters, that they do not really know how to deal with it getting into troubles, drugs and alcohol. This is very sad. I believe the younger generation lost so much of the values and real treasures in life. I am happy when I still see some of the young promising examples not abused by any substances talents in Hollywood. Let’s hope the popularity won’t spoil them too.

It is very sad to follow how young and talented people get to the rehabs at such a young age. Well, indeed fame and much money and total freedom this is what truly spoils the great fates of the young people and almost kids. It is very strange to me to observe the decay of values and moral traditions. People seem to like themselves only and go partying what about not being shallow, but deep, human and compassionate? Earlier people used to love people and use things, today the priorities have changed. This is so sad!
