Beyoncé not only surprised fans and the music world with the release of her new self-titled album, but she also broke sales records on Apple’s iTunes.
Apple said Beyoncé sold 828,773 albums in its first three days, breaking the U.S. record for first week album sales with 617, 213 albums sold.
But not everyone is happy with the surprise. The major retail company Target announced it will not sell the singer’s new album because she released it online first.
Their spokesperson Erica Julkowski said: “At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections.
“While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyoncé in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé’s new self-titled album ‘Beyoncé.'”
Beyonce’s fifth studio album is considered a “visual album” due to the simultaneous release of the 14 original songs and 17 accompanying videos.
Beyonce is a very talented singer and a promising starting actress. I am sure she won’t suffer much with such a refusal. The policy of the company is clear since they are interested in high profit, while Beyonce won’t suffer much, but only gain more of her popularity. I love this woman and I adore her magic voice!
