Michelle Ghent, Terrence Howard’s ex-wife, obtained a permanent restraining order against him. The actor has agreed to stay away from his ex-wife for at least three years. He also agreed to pay $14,800 of Michelle’s legal fees.
Terrence was initially told to stay 100 yards away from his ex-wife at all times, but the judge increased it to 300 yards until 2016.
The decision follows an alleged domestic violence attack during a family getaway to Costa Rica in July. According to court documents, Terrence physically assaulted Michelle more than once. She claims that Howard started hitting her soon after they married in 2010. In December 2011, she alleged that he had even threatened to kill her. Terrence has denied all allegations.
He previously said: ”Unfortunately I’ve tried to help people and it’s not necessarily in the same enlightened path, of trying to help themselves. We’re divorced now, and she should stay that way. And I just wish the best for her, but as far as me harming somebody … I really can’t harm a fly. It’s completely against my spirit, but I’m so heartbroken, that you can see that doing it on a night like this is only for an attempt to try and hurt me.”
