The best celebrity cameos

From Mike Tyson in The Hangover to Neil Patrick Harris in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, celebrity cameos have made many movies and TV shows memorable. Here are some of the best cameo appearances so far.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

The duo from Good Will Hunting poke fun at themselves in this cameo, where they play themselves filming Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season, a spoof of the movie that made them stars.

Pamela Anderson in Borat

When Borat, the backward Kazakh journalist played by Sacha Baron Cohen, sees an old episode of Baywatch, he falls in love with star Pamela Anderson. After traveling across the country to meet her, he shows up at her book signing to make her his wife in the traditional Kazakh way: by stuffing her into a marriage sack. Unfortunately for him, Playboy Playmates aren’t too keen on being kidnapped into marriage.

Bill Murray in Zombieland

Bill Murray plays himself pretending to be a zombie in this horror spoof. There’s even a reenactment of his hit Ghostbusters, but Murray ends up getting shot when he’s mistaken for a real zombie while trying to scare the movie’s unsuspecting hero. Best line: “My make-up guy taught me how to do this: corn starch, you know… some berries, liquorice for the ladies. It suits my lifestyle. I like to get out and do stuff.”

Madonna in Die Another Day

Besides providing a supremely sexy music video and title track to Pierce Brosnan’s swan song as James Bond, the Material Girl took up a sword as 007’s fencing instructor in a scene pulsing with double entendre. “I see you handle your weapon well,” she says. “I have been known to keep my tip up,” quips Brosnan.

Mariah Carey in You Don’t Mess With the Zohan

In an off-the-wall movie about an Israeli counter-terrorist named Zohan (Adam Sandler) who fakes his own death to follow his dream of becoming a top notch hairstylist in New York City, it makes perfect sense that Zohan ends up in the dressing room of an equally flamboyant figure, Mariah Carey.  She plays an exaggerated version of her diva self.

Hulk Hogan in Gremlins 2: The New Batch

When the gremlins begin to take over a Manhattan theater, the legendary pro wrestler, who is trying to casually enjoy a movie, is asked by the usher to help him get rid of the critters in the projection booth. What follows is Hogan in full WWF mode—shirt-ripping action and all—screaming, “Do I have to come up there myself? Do you think the Gremsters cannot stand up to the Hulkster?!”

Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder

After his couch-jumping and Scientological antics led to public embarrassment and a tarnished image, Tom needed a comedy pronto to prove he didn’t take himself so seriously. Enter his longtime pal Ben Stiller, who cast Cruise as Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder, who may or may not have been modeled on real-life producer Scott Rudin. Somewhere beneath the prosthetics, wig and jungle of chest hair is Tom Cruise, surprising everyone.

Eminem in Funny People

The movie about funnyman George Simmons (Adam Sandler) takes a depressing turn when he finds out he has a terminal disease. In need of some life advice, Simmons turns to his unlikely best friend, Eminem, who tells him he should just go die, before cursing out Ray Romano in a fit of rage for wanting to take a photo of him.

Betty White in 30 Rock

30 Rock has featured many famous guest stars playing a wide array of characters, but just as impressive is the list of stars who’ve played themselves on the long-running NBC comedy. When Tracy feared he was going to die because of the celebrity Rule of 3, he called up Betty to see if she’d kicked the bucket yet.

It is interesting to see the famous actors playing themselves. Why not, this just make smiles much fun and interesting. I like cameos and I wish they were more on the screen of present days too. This is simply nice. So, I stand up for more experiences like that!
