Wesley Snipes: Blade II ($10 million)
It’s difficult to confirm the exact sum Snipes was paid for the part alone in any of the three films but according to tax files released prior to the actor’s conviction for tax offenses, his income was reported at over $10 million for Blade II in 2001 alone.
George Clooney: Batman and Robin ($10 million)
Clooney was the third actor to play the role of Batman throughout the 1990s, replacing Val Kilmer. He made millions with this role even though this movie is thought to be the worst Batman movie ever made. The movie did not do that well and the fans were not thrilled with it. However, Clooney still made his fortune from it.
Halle Berry: Catwoman ($12.5 million)
In 2004, Halle Berry was possibly the highest paid actress in Hollywood and commanded $12.5 million for the title role in this critical catastrophe. Berry was awarded the Golden Razzie for worst actress for her role. Still, she made a lot of money.
Sylvester Stallone: Judge Dredd ($15 million)
Sly collected a massive $15 million in 1995 when he played the part of Judge Dredd. The film is based on the comic strip of the same name in the British comic 2000 AD. Stallone later commented that he had high hopes for the film but admitted that it didn’t live up to what it could have been.
Marlon Brando: Superman: The Movie ($16 million)
Brando agreed to play the role of Jor-El but only if he received the sum of $3.7 million, for what amounted to two weeks’ work. He had his lines written on props, and in one scene, the nappy worn by the infant Kal-El. The actor also aked to receive a percentage of what was made from the movie and that’s how he made a huge $16 million. Note: the movie was released in 1978, so adjusted for inflation, Brando would have earned $55.5 million in today’s dollars.
Tobey Maguire: Spiderman 2 ($17.5 million)
Tobey Maguire earned $4 million for Spiderman in 2002. In 2004, his fee jumped to $17.5 million plus back-end deals for the sequel.
Hugh Jackman: X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($20 million)
While his earnings for the first three X-Men movies went unreported, Jackman is thought to have earned a big fat $20 million cheque for his work on underwhelming prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Considering the movie itself made $373 million worldwide, he was worth every penny. Jackman’s salary for his latest movie The Wolverine is still unknown, but it is safe to guess it was even more than $20 million.
Christian Bale: The Dark Knight ($30 million)
Playing the role of Batman in The Dark Knight Christian Bale earned $30 million although his pay was just $10 million thanks to the deal which helped him earn in relation to what the movie made at the box office.
Robert Downey Jr.: Avengers Assemble ($50 million)
Playing the role of Iron man he earned a mere $500,000 for the first Iron Man movie in 2008 but 4 years later Robert charged 100 times the amount and got paid a whooping $50 million for his role in Avengers which included the percentage of the earnings the movie made at the box-office.
Jack Nicholson: Batman ($60 million)
Playing the Joker, Warner Bros. had to agree to give Nicholson top billing as well as percentage points on the movie’s gross plus a special deal that gave him royalties on all merchandise. Nicholson walked away with crazy $60 million.
Superheroes are indeed popular! I wonder why? We all want to believe in some good powers helping us, simple propel and protect us form evil.) I see how much ‘evil’ money the super heroes are paid, even if the roles really suck. Cat woman is the worse superhero I saw ion screen.
