Wanda Sykes has revealed that her parents struggled to accept that she was a lesbian for years. They didn’t even come to her wedding back in 2008.
“I was 40 when I came out to my parents,” Sykes said. “I said, ‘Mum, let me just explain something to you. You know I’m living with so-and-so, I just want you to know that we’re not just roommates… She’s my girlfriend…’ She was like, ‘What do you mean?’ I was like, ‘Mum, come on, you have to have known this… I just want to make sure we’re clear on this.’ She just fell apart, fell apart and ended up not coming out here for my surgery because she was just that, ‘I’m done with you attitude.'”
However, Wanda managed to patch things up with her parents. “We’re in a great place right now, my parents are wonderful… They weren’t at my wedding, but they were at the kids’ last birthday party,” she said.
I feel pity for Wanda! No, I do not accept lesbians. I mean I have nothing against them, just do not want to have any alongside. However I still believe parents should never refuse their kids no matter what. I am a mother myself and if my children would go homosexual, this wouldn’t be a reason to refuse being their parent, though it would hurt. So, far I am a happy mom of straight kids, thanks, God!
