alg-wesley-snipes-jpg Wesley Snipes has returned home after serving a jail sentence. He spent nearly 28 months in prison for avoiding to pay millions of dollars in taxes. Originally, the actor was supposed to serve 36 months in jail but he was released earlier. However, he is not completely free. The Blade star will continue his sentence in a house arrest until July 19. He will be monitored by New York Community Corrections Office.

Snipes was convicted of tax evasion for 2008 and started serving the jail sentence in December 2010 at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean in Pennsylvania. It is a medium-security correctional institution.images

During the trial the actor tried to convince the court that he was naive and uneducated in the money matters so he made a mistake. He stated: ”I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance.” Even so, he was found guilty. At the time, right after the original verdict his lawyer Robert Bernhoft spoke of his client’s integrity. Among other things the lawyer said: ”Mr. Snipes has always been committed to doing the right thing, and after this trial is over he’ll make whatever amends are required. This is a man of integrity.”
