The movie represents a new version of a classical Cinderella story. Katie Gibbs (acted by Lucy Hale), a 17-year-old foster child, who fulfills all her step-mother and step-siblings’ bidding with no complaints. Her stepbrother harasses her, while Gail (her stepmother’s name; performed by Missi Pyle) gives all home tasks to be done by Katie and not her beloved daughter Bev (acted by Megan Park). Indeed Katie is really badly treated. Over-worked, terrified and harried, Katie is vocally gifted and has a great talent in composing songs. Katie feels very upset when she is forced to give up the idea of winning a recording contract from Massive Records, whose President, Harvey Morgan, is looking for a spectacular talent in favor of her step sister Bev, whose singing ability is very poor. Moreover, Katie falls for Luke (Freddie Stroma), Harvey’s son. However, she needs to stop thinking of him as Bev also wants him. Gail is doing everything to promote Bev and leave Katie at home, stuck with home errands to prevent her appearance in Luke’s company and all sorts of events where Katie’s talent would be noticed and appreciated…
