Dr. Carl Jung, who is played by Michael Fassbender, is getting an unusual patient- young and passionate woman named Sabina Spielrein, who is portrayed by Keira Knightley. As she is suffering from hysteria, she is first hospitalized and then subjected to a very special talk therapy, invented by Dr. Sigmund Freud. Over the course of her treatment, Sigmund and Carl develop a very strong relationship, almost like father and son, because of the constant writing to each other and consulting with each other. As the time goes by and Sabina seems to be getting better, we discover that she and Carl Jung, who is married, are having an affair and are lovers for quite some time. But, it all takes its own turn as Carl drifts apart from the Freud's theory in psychoanalysis, which states that it can only reveal the patients problems, but not cure them as well. And so, the battle between these two brilliant minds in the field of psychology and psychoanalysis.
