Mike Flanagan did nearly impossible. He managed to create a high quality horror movie with a budget estimated around seventy thousand dollars. We wrote and directed the movie. His brainchild is piece of art that demonstrates Mikes skills. Story has interesting twists, effects are decent, some scenes are very chilling with out loud music or screaming and none of the above is overdone. The lack of money is compensating for cheaper locations to film, interesting story and good framing. Tricia (Courtney Bell ) is pregnant when she decides to declare her couple years missing husband dead. She goes through emotional change and acceptance of a most probable situation. At that period she starts having visions and lucid dreams about her husband. It seems like his ghost is disappointed by her decision to declare him dead. She sees him changed and doesn’t know what to do. She even visits psychiatrist. Tricia and her friend Callie (Katie Parker) discover tunnel that is connected with several missing persons. Discovery is followed with visions and chilling encounters. Is it possible that her husband is still alive? Or is he haunting her for some reason? Movie is placed on shelf with dramas, horrors and mysteries, but actually it is a thriller. Mike Flanagan deserves admiration because of movie “Absentia”, that probably set new standard for low budget movies.
