What is the movie An Ache in Every Stake about?
“An Ache in Every Stake” finds the three stooges in fine form. In this short feature the famous slapstick trio plays a group of icemen making a delivery at a house sitting atop an insanely long staircase. The staircase is so long that the ice melts by the time they reach the top. Their usual shenanigans also result in the devastation of a few birthday cakes for the wealthy owner of the house. With the stooges being who they are and doing what they do, they inevitably make the house servants lose their minds and give up their jobs. Of course, the stooges then get hired to prepare the birthday dinner. What they don’t know is that the owner of the house and the birthday boy in question is the same man whose cakes they’ve destroyed earlier in the day. The stooges get down to the business of making a birthday cake in earnest, and do a good job of it. Unfortunately, just as the cake is finished, it gets accidentally pierced and it deflates. In an attempt to fix the damage done, they try to re-inflate the cake using town gas. The cake is rolled out before the birthday boy, and the stooges sing “happy birthday” to him, albeit to the tune of “London Bridge is falling down”. When the house owner tries to blow out the candles, the whole cake blows up in his face and the stooges are forced to make a quick exit.
