What is the movie Beastly about?
This story represents an interpretation of the classical fairy-tale ‘The Beauty and the Beast”. The action takes place in Manhattan, USA, present days. Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) lives here, one day he makes a terrible mistake by calling Kendra Hilferty (Mary-Kate Olsen) ugly and strange. Being very offended, Kendra transforms him into an ugly, bald, tattooed beast out of a once very handsome man. Kyle strives to meet his love until the next spring as only thus he can break the spell and gain his attractive appearance back. However, if the real love doesn’t find him till the next spring, he will stay ugly forever. His father who promised to support his son at first, very soon neglects him. Hurt and angry, Kyle can rely on Zolla (Lisa Gay Hamilton), his maid, and his blind tutor Will Fratalli (Neil Patrick Harris). One day Lindy Taylor Will (Vanessa Hudgens), who gets Kyle’s interest, appears at his place hiding from the criminals, who tried to kill her and her father. The spring is approaching and Lindy considers Kyle a friend… will her heart warm up or will the witch have a gloat over her spell unbroken..?

I will admit that I had very low expectations for “Beastly.” It seemed like it was just another teen drama, based on the popular school romance novel, but it was actually a good watch. I enjoyed how the emphasis on love was placed and how the facade of being famous can blind you to other people’s needs.
Like the fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast,” on which the story is based, true love conquers all and saves that day. That being said, there is minor language and some drug references, but the extremely offensive point is, the magic that turns the main character into “The Beast” is no longer fairy tale magic. It is witchcraft. Real Witchcraft! Use caution for your teens and be sure they are strong in Jesus.

I guess i should be honest and say that i decided to see this movie only due to my suddenly arisen interest towards the actor Alex Pettyfer. I loved him in the movie “Time” where he played a negative character, that is why i got interested with some other movies where this smoochies have played. The first thing that i didn’t like about the movie was it subject line, i can certainly say that it is very banal. The beautiful and a bit arrogant guy was punished by a witch who was his classmate, and now he is all tattooed and bold, what kind of beast is that? And of course the condition of him getting back to normal was making a woman falling in love with him the way he looks now. Some of the scenes looked very silly. I can say that no matter i consider this entire subject silly, still i believe there could have been done more about it. Much more, but the scenario writers haven’t done their job properly, as a result we got a “raw” movie.

I think we all read and saw the good old tale “Beauty and the beast”. And even saw a few interpretation and new ideas regarding the original plot. So here is a new version of the classic tale. I am not against such experiments, as some of them are good, like for example “The red riding hood”, but the thing created by Daniel Barnes have “killed” me from the beginning and till the end. The subject line is stupid, the dialogues are terrible, and actors “made of wood” as well as not convincing at all, i felt the strong wish to cry during the movie. This movie was supposed to look like a fairy tale, but nevertheless there wasn’t the atmosphere of a fairy tale at all. Everything happening on the screen was not convincing, and the first half an hour of the movie didn’t even had sense. Anyways my personal opinion, that the movie is silly and not worthy spending time on.

I had this movie on the back “shelf” for a very long time, and finally I have found a couple of free hours in order to watch it, while reading a variety of negative reviews I was ready to the fact that I might not like it, but surprisingly even for me I liked it a lot. Especially if not comparing it all the time with well known fairy tale. It is a Disney movie for children, though it is mostly counted for the adult people. The main hero is a spoilt boy, he has a beautiful physical appearance, big house, a plenty of money, and a whole crowd of admirers, this way he thinks that he has a right to think that he is better than everyone else and that he can judge everyone he doesn’t like. As a result something was supposed to happen, his witch classmate has cursed him (honestly I was surprised to see one of the Olsen sisters performing the role of the witch, but I should say that she did pretty good) to look ugly and gave him one year in order to find a girl who will love him the way he is. And this is the moment than action starts.
