Captain Philips is a drama thriller based on real life events staring Tom Hanks as Captain Richard Philips. It is a movie based on the 2009 hijacking of the US container ship by a crew of Somali pirates. The movie focuses on the relation ship of Captain Philips and the Somali captain Muse, who took him hostage. At first Captain Philips tries to keep the pirates at bay, but eventually they board the ship and Phillips instructs the crew to hide. Pirates come to the bridge and ask for money, captain of the ship offers them 30 thousand dollars saying that it's all they have, but the pirate captain wants millions. He wants to keep the crew for ransom and starts to search for the crew. The crew captures the pirate Captain but his companions have Richard Philips and that's the time when the US Navy gets involved. The actors who are playing the pirates did an awesome job, they are scary and it is possible to forget that they are actors. The sense of emergency and tension is conveyed very well and it is nice to see a story like this one turned into a movie. This movie is a perfect choice for those interested in a realistic depiction of today's pirates, if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and check it out.
