1995 crime drama “Casino” represents 8th and final collaboration between director Martin Scorcese and actor Robert De Niro. Also starring Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci, the film was based on the book of the same name by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the script with Scorcese. De Niro plays the role of Sam “Ace” Rothstein, a sports handicapper sent by the mob to Las Vegas to run a mafia owned casino. In short time Ace manages to double the casino’s profits, which the mob skims before reporting to income tax agencies. Mob sends their enforcer and Ace’s friend Nicky Santoro (Pesci) and his brother Dominick to serve as protection for Ace and for the business, but Nicky becomes a liability due to his erratic behavior. He is soon banned from all the Vegas casinos, and in retaliation he forms his own crew for burglaries and shakedowns. Ace meets Ginger (Stone), a local hustler, and falls in love with her. After she remains pregnant with Ace, she agrees to marry him. Things aren’t going great for Ace. The casino business is under constant FBI scrutiny, he has fallen out of favor with the mob bosses, he is at odds with Nicky and Ginger is making plans to leave him. With so many loose ends, the mob’s casino empire is destined to fall, but who will stay afloat and who will pay the toll?
