What is the movie Children of Men about?
A British-American co-production with a Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron at the helm, “Children of Men” was a financial flop, but a critical success. The story, co-written by Cuaron and a number of other writers, was based on the book of the same name by P. D. James. It is set in a dystopian world of 2027, with the humanity pushed to the brink of extinction after 18 years of global infertility. As ward rage all over the planet, England is the only country remaining with a semblance of order, even though it is now a police state which deals harshly with immigrants. Theo Faron (Clive Owen), a former activist turned cynical bureaucrat after the death of his only son in 2008, gets kidnapped by a militant activist group advocating the rights of immigrants called Fishes. It turns out that Theo’s estranged American wife Julian (Julianne Moore) is the leader of the group, and she burdens him with the task of escorting Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitay), the only known pregnant woman in the world to a scientific organization fighting infertility called the “Human Project”. Julian gets betrayed and killed by the members of her group who want to use Kee and her future baby for their political purposes. Theo and Kee have to flee and avoid many perils lurking up ahead in order to get the only pregnant woman in the world to safety.
