“Cogan’s Trade” presents a film adaptation of the homonymous crime novel of 1974 by George V. Higgins, written and directed by famous Andrew Dominik. He is hired when a heist takes place on a high-stake card game, held under the Mob’s protection. Cogan starts his investigation in the underworld of crooks, mobsters and corrupted politicians of Boston to bring things in order and satisfy his superiors. The matter is not as easy as it seems, but a ruthless expert Cogan has already stepped on a dangerous path of violence…

It is difficult to put down the review on this movie. The plot has several hole sin it, the dialogues are have, but the performances of the actors are great and show the cons world brightly with all its dirt, fears and death.

Too much blood, killings and the story line is not actually clear, the plot is suffering with too much talks over inner worlds of the characters that is done on the expense of the story line development. I watched this move just die to Brad Pitt and Rau Liotta in it. After watching the movie, the impressions were mixed as it is quite a slow movie with less action and too much daily chats.

This movie represents a relatively simple story that consists of nineteen extended scenes. Each scene is largely conversational, with little action. Higgins simply drops the reader into conversations and then the characters try to work out what is happening and what is being discusses. It’s an interesting approach and for the most part works well. The main downside of the film is that the dialogue often has little to do with the plot, just everyday talk that works to give a portrait of characters. I like dialogue driven stories, but it has to serve the plot. Personally, I would have preferred some of the conversations to be trimmed back to the mostly relevant bits and a doubling of the number of scenes. In general, an interesting and enjoyable movie.
