What is the movie Detour about?
If there was a competition for movie with lowest budget possible, Detour from 2013 would in first five. Usually low budget, B rated movies are filmed in single house. Confiding space is put to the next level in movie Detour. Minimalism rules the entire movie. This film is filmed almost entire in a single car. With only one actor placed in the actual event. All the acting in the movie is done by Neil Hopkins who acts Jackson. While driving his car, Jackson got trapped in huge mudslide. Entire movie follows his behaving in this situation. He is trapped under layer of dirt and there is no hope or sunlight. There is a great possibility that audience gets scared. Situation is believable and can happen to each and any of us. That is reason why this movie is scary. Because of the lack of action and story, film focuses on emotional changes that Jackson is experiencing. Rational thinking starts to slip after some time. Hopelessness and desire to survive are taking turns and effect actions that our prisoner is taking. Atmosphere of the movie is very claustrophobic. There is no natural light, batteries are going out and even lack of air can be felt while watching the film. Neil Hopkins did convincing acting. Despair, agony acceptance of death and saying goodbye to the family are showing at extreme intensity and movie deserves to be watched with attention.
