What is the movie Devil's Knot about?
Devil's Knot is a recent biographical crime-drama directed by Atom Egoyan. The movie is based on a true story that once struck a quiet society of Arkansas. The story was taken as a basis for a book also called “Devil's Knot” by Mara Leveritt. The movie is set in 199, in a small middle class community of West Memphis, Arkansas where the real story has taken place. The whole town is worried because three eight-year-old boys are missing from their neighborhood. After a certain time and an extensive search all the three of them, Christopher Byers, Stevie Branch and Michael Moore, are found beaten and tied up. They are killed violently. The police department and the community are convinced that the murders are the work of some satanic cult because of the sexual and violent natures of the crime. After a month of thorough investigation three teenagers are arrested on suspicion of murder. One of the teenagers, Jessie Misskelley Jr. confesses after being interrogated for approximately 4 hours. All the three are taken to trial and sentenced to life and Echols to death. It is worth noting that they are still claiming they’re innocent.

This movie is an above average murder mystery/courtroom drama. It is based on real events, which is something that definitely makes the film more intriguing and interesting. The cast is well put together and the acting is on par for the most part. Witherspoon and Firth deliver solid performances and the supporting cast do a fine job. I thought the movie had a nice flow to it and the some of the cinematography was well done. I do give the director credit for some of the scenes in the film that are a little troubling to watch because I believe it is important to the final product. I don't believe I would make the trip to the theater to see it, but it is well worth a rental.

"Devil's Knot" screenwriters Paul Harris Boardman and Scott Derrickson, and the talented director Atom Egoyan, paint a picture of the principal figures in the case of the West Memphis Three and the community where the crimes took place.
