Considered a Coen brothers masterpiece, “Fargo” has received its share of rewards and accolades. This dark comedy tells the tale of a series of homicides in rural Minnesota. Jerry Lundegaard, a small time car salesman from Minneapolis, is strapped for cash and resorts to desperate measures in order to obtain it. He hires two criminal to kidnap his wife, so he could pocket the ransom from her wealthy father. The two hired criminals pull off the kidnapping, but things go horribly wrong when they are stopped by a state trooper. The trooper gets killed, and so does the couple that saw them dragging the trooper’s body while driving by. Marge Gunderson, local police chief who is seven months pregnant but still has a good nose for sniffing out bad guys, begins to look into the highway murders. Meanwhile, Jerry has problems with his father in law who wants to cooperate with the kidnappers, but on his own term. When Jerry arranges a drop with the kidnappers, his father in law appears and gets shot dead, but not before wounding one of the kidnapers. Meanwhile, Jerry’s wife has been killed for “being too noisy”, and the killer kills his partner in crime as well, this time with an axe. Marge discovers the kidnappers’ secret hideout and finds one of the two feeding the remains of his partner to the meat grinder. He tries to flee across a frozen lake, but Marge shoots him in the leg and arrests him. Not long after, Jerry is found hiding in a motel and arrested as well.
