As always there is a hidden talent in the crowd and it is usually to be found where we least expect it. That is also the story about Filly Brown. She is a young and talented girl called Maria Jose 'Majo' Tonorio, who is living in LA with her sister and dad. Her mother ended up in prison and it is hard for all of them. As they try to live their lives and earn as much money as possible, Majo, who is the youngest in her family and loves writing hi hop lyrics, gets herself in the company of a local hustler and gets her songs promoted and played on the radio as well. Very soon hot shot record label offers her to sign a contract and promises her successes, fame, and most of all lots of money, and that's exactly what she needs. But, will she be able to leave everything behind her and go in search for her fame? With a casting crew Lou Diamond Phillips, who was major in In a Class of His Own and Edward James Olmos, from Stand and Deliver, as well as the new young star Gina Rodriguez, who gets to portray the main female role of Majo, this drama is a movie worth watching.
