It is 1962 in London, the time and place where our story begins. The plot of this drama, that was both written and directed by Sally Potter, is pretty simple and genuine. The focus of this movie is on the relationship between two teenage girls- Ginger (Elle Fanning) and Rosa (Alice Englert). They have always been friends, since they knew each other. And they had dreamed that they would stay friends forever. And it all seemed perfect with two of them exchanging thoughts about fashion, talk about religion, politics, boys, and share their dreams with each other. Until one day, when it all starts crumbling down. That is the moment when the Cold War is on the doorstep and there is very real threat of nuclear holocaust. These two young teens grow up, but get confronted and get their friendship ruined, because of the different opinions and attitudes towards life and how to live it. Should you live it, like it’s your last day on Earth? Or should you take care of everyone else you love first? Things that Ginger says at one point are exactly the lines that point out their differences and their relationship: “ I loved you, Rosa. But we are different. You dream of everlasting love, not me. Despite the horror and the sorrow, I’d love our world. I want us all to live.”
